Witness by Karen Hesse
I chose the poem Leanora Sutter ( pg. 40-41). It really stood out because back in the 1920's most white people didn't like black people but the guy in my book Mr. Field didn't mind having a little black girl over at his house even though he was white. My favorite line was when Mr. Field said Leanora could come by anytime and that he loves a flaky apple pie.
My question to Mr. Field would be why did he not mind having a black girl over at his house because most white people didn't like black people in their community so why would they want a black kid in their home. What I think he would say is that he likes having company at his house and somebody to talk to.
What do you mean "...like when my wife was there"? What did you like about the poem? What stood out? What line was your favorite and why? Mrs. W
